Art prints featuring the Soundtracks : Freestyle series and technique explores the nature of freestyling through painting, visually communicating a musicality and choreography of movement through color and application of strokes and paint onto a surface. The inspiration of each piece draws from my relationship with the medium, the relationship through songs and lyrics, and the musicality of each track and how I would reinterpret it into visual form rather than movement.

Painted during a late-night session, “Primal Heart” embodies my soundtracks:freestyle technique with a raw, unfiltered response to a first-listening to this album by Kimbra.  It is a reminder to consciously look inside ourselves, at the balance and imbalance of love and empathy and selflessness versus our impulses that could be potentially destructive such as greed, envy, or ego.

Primal Heart is the third studio album released by New Zealand pop indie singer, Kimbra. I fell in love with her arrangements, voice, and performance years ago when I saw the music video, “Settle Down” randomly on youtube.  She’s mostly known for her duet with Gotye on “Somebody That I Used to Know .”    Cameo Lover is an original piece I’ve also painted that was inspired by her first album, Vows.
